Welcome to
True North

A self-directed learning community

"TN is a place where children can find their centers and the joy they each carry in their hearts. They can experiment, take risks, learn from each other and nature. They ultimately gain confidence, a connection to the Earth, community and a curiosity for what the world holds for them. It is a beautiful program which brings the children and by connection their families into greater harmony with each other and the world."

True North is part of a global movement of self-directed learning communities that is growing rapidly throughout the world.

We are not a school in the conventional sense. We do not offer diplomas, credits, or grades.

Rather, True North offers an alternative to school where children learn in the ways that suit them best.

We serve unschooling and homeschooling families with children between the ages of 4.5 and 13.

At True North our vision is to create a space for authentic learning based on four basic premises

as outlined by the Agile Learning Center. (https://agilelearningcenters.org/)

Learning: Learning is natural. It's happening all the time, everywhere.

Self-Direction: People learn best by making their own decisions.

Children are people.

Experience: People learn more from their culture and environment than

from the content they are taught. The medium is the message.

Growth: Self-awareness and collective intelligence is catalyzed through

cycles of intention, creation, reflection and sharing

"It makes me so happy to think about my child outside, running, playing, exploring, learning, discovering, experimenting, laughing and building community!"
